After two miscarriages, we were referred to Dr. Brown to seek answers to the dreaded question, “Why is this happening?” Bloodwork revealed that I have a MTHFR gene mutation along with high homocysteine levels. Both can be contributors to pregnancy loss. This provided some relief as to what the problem was.
The next steps included ovulation medications along with daily doses of aspirin and folate supplements while we continued to try on our own. After a few months, we moved on to IUI. Eventually in January of 2019, we decided to give IVF a try. We collected and successfully fertilized 11 eggs. We had two embryos implanted and got a positive pregnancy result 12 days later. However, at the first ultrasound appointment, there were no heartbeats. Once again, the feelings of hopelessness and disappointment reared their ugly heads.
If it wasn’t for Dr. Brown’s positivity, we would have probably given up. In December 2019, we tried FET and transferred two more embryos. Twelve days later, we got a positive pregnancy result. This time at the first ultrasound, we had a heartbeat! There was only one heartbeat, and we were okay with that. That one heartbeat was the best sound we had ever heard!
As the weeks passed, it was hard not to share our good news because we didn’t want to jinx anything. We finally announced our news to the world after our 20 week anatomy scan. The support we received from those who knew our story was overwhelming, and our willingness to share our story became much easier.
We welcomed our baby boy, Anders, into the world on September 2, 2020 weighing 7 pounds 12 ounces and measuring 20 1/2 inches long. He is truly a blessing! Thank you to Dr. Brown and all the staff for helping us fulfill a life long dream!
