What Fertility Services Could Insurance Cover?

Understanding Fertility Benefits

Fertility Coverage Can Start Earlier Than You Think.

Insurance may help with several parts of fertility care, beginning with your first consultation. Depending on your plan, benefits may also cover diagnostic testing, monitoring, medications, IUI, IVF, or embryo transfer.

Your coverage depends on your individual policy, employer, provider network, location, and treatment needs.

Two people insured by the same company can have very different fertility benefits.

At Brown Fertility, our team can help you review your plan. Understanding your benefits early can give you a clearer picture of your coverage and any steps you may need to complete before treatment begins.

Fertility Testing and Treatment May Be Covered Differently.

Your fertility evaluation helps us understand what may be affecting your ability to conceive. Insurance benefits may cover your consultation, hormone testing, ovarian reserve testing, ultrasounds, cycle monitoring, semen analysis, or a hysterosalpingogram (HSG).

Treatment benefits may be reviewed separately. Your plan may cover ovulation medication, monitored cycles, intrauterine insemination, in vitro fertilization, or embryo transfer.

Fertility medications may also be handled through a separate pharmacy benefit, employer fertility program, or specialty pharmacy. A plan that includes treatment benefits may apply different requirements to medication, laboratory services, and procedures.

A Few Details Can Help Clarify Your Benefits.

  1. Your insurance company can explain whether fertility consultations, testing, medications, IUI, IVF, and embryo transfer are included in your plan. It can also confirm whether you need a referral, prior authorization, or a particular clinic, laboratory, or pharmacy.

  2. Ask how your deductible, copay, and coinsurance apply to fertility care. It is also helpful to confirm whether your plan has a treatment cycle limit or lifetime benefit maximum.

  3. Your Summary of Benefits and Coverage provides a useful overview of your health plan. You can usually find more detailed fertility benefit information by calling the member services number on your insurance card.

  4. If your employer offers benefits through Carrot, Kindbody, Maven, Progyny, WINFertility, or another fertility program, share that information with us as well. These benefits may work alongside your regular medical insurance or provide a separate allowance for eligible fertility services.

We Can Help You Understand What Comes Next.

1

Send us a copy of your current insurance card and information about any employer-sponsored fertility benefits you receive. Our financial team can review the available benefit information and help identify coverage details, referral requirements, prior authorization steps, treatment limits, and possible patient costs.

2

Once your Brown Fertility physician recommends a treatment plan, we can explain how the available benefit information relates to your care.

Your insurer will make final coverage and claim decisions based on your individual plan.
